Quick Start Mixing Guide

For the new user or guest engineer starting to mix with GLD. It assumes the mixer is already configured for the show.


Step 1 - Become familiar with the GLD Channel Layout


1  - See where the Input and Master faders are by pressing Layer keys A,B,C,D and reading the displays.

2  - Display top shows strip type. 'St' = stereo.

3  - Channel number or user-defined name of up to 5 characters.

4  - Shows the current function and setting of the strip Rotary. Press one of the 4 function keys to select Gain, Pan, Custom1 or Custom2. Custom assignment can be viewed in the Setup / Control / Surface Prefs screen.

5  - Icons show if the channel is Safe from Scene recall, and if if is assigned to one or more DCA groups.

6  - Display bottom shows information for the currently active Mix. Shows mix type, 'ON' for assigned routing, 'PRE' for pre-fader sends.

7  - Press and hold Alt View to view channel or socket numbers or fader dB values in place of name. Option is set in Setup / Control screen.

Step 2 - Become familiar with the GLD Socket Patching

Select the I/O screen. Touch to open tabs to view current patching. The dSNAKE pages show patching to the remote AudioRacks. To change socket assignments, touch and select from drop-down menus.

Step 3 - Work with the Channel and Mix Processing

Press a channel or master strip Sel key to present its processing on the SuperStrip physical controls. Touch the SuperStrip Sel keys or screen tabs to open screen pages for the processing.

1  - Push these rotary controls down for their second function.

2  - To view and edit parameters on screen, Processing must be active.

3  - Top left displays selected channel Name and Colour. Touch this to edit.

4  - Touch a parameter on screen, adjust using the screen Rotary.

5  - Touch ? to open the on-screen Help for the related page.

6  - Bottom left shows the currently active Mix.


Step 4 - Work with the Mix Sends and Assignments

Press a channel or master strip Mix key to view and work with its send levels and assignments on faders.

Note Remember to press Mix again or press the LR Mix key to return to the main mix once you have finished adjusting parameters.

Normal mix mode (FOH):  Main LR mix active. How to assign routing.

Master mix view:  All sends to one master. Assign routing and pre/post.

Channel Mix view:  All sends from one input. Assign routing and pre/post.

DCA and Audio Group assignment: Assign routing.

Note If you raise a channel and master fader and there is no audio then check that any assigned DCA has not been muted or its fader turned down.


Step 5 - Work with the FX

For send/return effects such as reverb or delay:

•  To send to the FX - Press the FX master Mix key.
•  To adjust FX parameters - Press the FX strip Sel key.
•  To return FX to the mix use the related FXret channel.


Step 6 - Link Parameters

You can gang (link) selected parameters for two or more channels or masters of the same type. For example, 2 channels for stereo keyboard.

Use the Ganging screen. Choose the attributes to gang.

Note Ganging does not link the preamp Gain, Polarity and 48V.


Step 7 - Copy and Reset Parameters

Processing can be copied from one to multiple other channels or mixes. Mix settings can be copied between channels and mixes. Processing and mixes can be reset to a factory default starting point.

1  - Hold Copy down and press a Sel or Mix key relating to the parameters you wish to copy. Then hold Paste down and press strip Sel or Mix keys of the channels to copy to. Hold Reset down and press Sel or Mix keys of the channels or mixes you wish to reset.

2  - Strip Sel key = Complete channel processing (but not Gain or Trim).

3 - Processing block Sel key = Individual block such as a PEQ or Preamp.

4  - Strip Mix key = Send levels/pan/assignments (but not pre/post).
